About University

ARTISTS at RISK (AR) is a network-based organization that works at the intersection of human rights and the arts. The AR Pavilion is dedicated to mapping the field of persecuted visual artists, facilitating their safe passage from their countries of origin, hosting them at “AR-Safe Haven Residencies,” and curating related projects. Artists at Risk (AR) is a global institution that is rapidly expanding. It has developed AR-Safe Haven Residencies in 20 locations in 16 countries, expanding on its established residency program in Helsinki. Despite the fact that Artists at Risk (AR) was the first residency program of its kind dedicated to the visual arts, it has always accepted applicants from other fields such as film, theatre, and dance. AR remains unique as an international network of residencies with close curatorial support. As a global advocate for art practitioners at risk, it is developing a horizontal network of AR-Safe Havens around the world in collaboration with partners and other networks.
